Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)

What is the end stage of peripheral artery disease?

The advanced or end stage of peripheral artery disease is rest pain in the foot or feet typically at night keeping you awake or new sores or ulcer on the feet that don’t heal within 2 weeks – this is termed chronic limb threatening ischemia (CLTI) or critical limb ischaemia (CLI). If you have any of these problems seek immediate attention by a vascular specialist as this can be both limb- and life- threatening if left untreated. Those with both CLTI, kidney disease and heart problems tend to do the worse, so early referral and treatment by a vascular specialist is essential for prognosis.
