What are the complications of vascular surgery?

Patients with vascular disease especially with arterial blockages are generally not the fittest patients to have surgery with multiple comorbidities such as heart problems (systemic disease) and diabetes. They need to be delicately worked up and optimised before intervention to minimise complications such as bleeding, clotting, neurological injury, infection and failure of the heart, kidneys and lung.
