Varicose Veins

Can you walk after vascular surgery?

Absolutely. The aim of vascular surgery is to optimise the blood flow through the diseased arteries in your legs to relieve pain and get you walking better and longer. With keyhole or endovascular surgery such as lower limb angioplasty the recovery period is much shorter than open bypass surgery and you can be walking the same or next day. For venous disease such as varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency, the keyhole minimally invasive endovenous ablation techniques now on offer minimise pain and trauma and these procedures can be done as a daycase under minimal anaesthesia and you are walking literally pain free immediately after the operation.
